She was a devoted and faithful wife and a devoted mother, and a devoted grandmother. She was an active and longtime member of First Baptist Church of Smithfield where she served as a deacon in the 1940s. She was a member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Her faith and family were her primary focus. She was an accomplished pianist and organist who played for many funerals, weddings, and church services. Needlepoint was one of her passions and she shared many pieces with family and friends. Edith was a true mathematician and loved being bookkeeper for her husband’s business, in the office of Johnston County Hams well into her eighties, and seasonally in various tobacco warehouse offices. She was to the end a true refined Southern Lady who always dressed to the hilt.

A celebration of Edith’s life will be held at First Baptist Church of Smithfield on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends one hour preceding the service at 10:00 AM.
