    Walter Edwin “Buddy” Scruggs, Jr., 84, of Leland passed away June 25, 2018 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Greenville County, SC on August 27, 1933, to Walter Edwin Scruggs and Mamie Terrell Scruggs. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Wisconsin BB64.  Later, he was employed with National Linen Service from which he retired as a manager and after retirement as a consultant. He was active in Seaside United Methodist Church and Bird Island Preservation Society where he was Head Stewart giving tours on the history of Bird Island for the State of North Carolina and the Society.  After moving to Leland he became a devoted member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.


    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sue Stout and Step-Son, SSGT Michael E. Cole, USAF.

    He is survived by his loving wife Judith (Judy) Phillips Scruggs; son Scott P. Scruggs (Shellie) of Jacksonville, FL; Step-daughter, Constance Cotton (Brent) of Hawaii; and four step-grandchildren.

    There will be a private memorial service after inurnment in the Garden of the Disciples.
