Mary Louise Moskalik Wakulinski, age 97 formerly of Ocean Isle Beach, died April 17, 2024, at Coastal Pointe Nursing Facility in Shallotte, NC.

She was born May 25, 1926, in Youngstown, OH to Frederick and Rose (Terlecki) Moskalik.  During the depression the family moved several times to find work including Detroit, MI, New York, NY, then back to Youngstown.  

Her parents were of Ukrainian decent and their heritage helped shape her life. She spent many years singing in her Ukrainian Catholic Church choirs and dancing in the Ukrainian dance groups organized by the church.  

Mary attended Youngstown State College and studied singing, she became an opera singer with the Metropolitan Opera Company in her younger years. While in New York she met the love of her life Taras Wakulinski, they married on August 4, 1945. Her husband predeceased her in 1993.

After getting married Mary and her husband settled into family life in East Meadow, Long Island, NY. She dedicated herself to raising her family, fund raising campaigns for her Ukrainian Catholic Church, St Vladimir’s, she also helped establish a Ukrainian dance group near her home, and worked for many years at Grumman Aircraft Manufacturing as an Executive Secretary.

A lifelong artist and crafter she enjoyed many activities and mediums, ceramics, stained glass, painting, sewing, embroidery, but first and foremost was always her love of music and her family.

She is survived by two sons: Taras N. “Terry” Wakulinski (Claudia “Cory”) of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; Glenn G. Wakulinski of Lebanon, NH; four grandchildren: Stacy Farley (James) of NH, Bryan Wakulinski (Leigh) of NE, Aimee Wakulinski (Ethan Gietz) of FL, Kristy Wakulinski of NH; and six great grandchildren: Drew, Brynn, Jameson, Emma, Hannah, and Brooke.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Mary Pat Moskalik (whom she called her best friend), Will Moskalik, Carol (Moskalik) Razo, Liz Moskalik, and Sean Moskalik.

A memorial service and celebration of life is planned at a later date on Long Island, NY, where she will rest beside her husband Taras. Her final resting place will be at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, Long Island, NY
