Ms. Amelia Kirby Thomas was born on April 20, 1933, in Supply, NC, to Jesse Elbert and Myrtie Galloway Kirby. Amelia peacefully passed away on Friday, June 6, in
Clayton, NC, surrounded by family, at the age of 92.

Amelia graduated from the University of North Carolina Greensboro College for Women with a degree in Physical Education. Upon graduation, she moved to Charlotte, NC,
where she began a distinguished career teaching elementary school Physical Education. Amelia was passionate about physical fitness, and her enthusiasm inspired
countless students over her 32 years of service.

Her servant’s heart did not retire when she did. She spent over 10 years volunteering with the American Red Cross after her “retirement.” Amelia’s love for her twin
grandsons, Adam and McKeithan, was second to none. After living a full life in Charlotte, she relocated to Clayton, NC, in 2009 to “be closer to her grandsons.” Amelia
also enjoyed serving her new community alongside her family. She often brought her daughter, Amy, and grandsons on Tuesdays and Thursdays to deliver Meals on Wheels
to those in need.

Amelia was an active member of Plaza United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC, where she sang in the church choir, and later at Horne Memorial United Methodist
Church in Clayton, NC.

Amelia is survived by her daughter, Margaret “Amy” Thomas Avate (Rick), of Clayton, NC, and her grandsons, Adam and James “McKeithan” Avate, also of Clayton, NC. She
is also survived by one sister, Emily Kirby Sellers, of Supply, NC.

Amelia and Amy would like to thank the staff of The Enclave in Clayton, NC, for their selfless care and support during her time there.

Red Cross.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM, with visitation beginning one hour prior, at Concord United Methodist Church, 147 Southport-Supply
Rd SE, Supply, NC 28462. A graveside service will follow immediately after at the church.
