Obituary
Barbara Murden Norris passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024 surrounded by family. She was born in Newport News, Virginia to Louis Durren Murden and Pearl Hickman Murden (Lowman) on August 27, 1937. She is predeceased by her parents and beloved son Buddy Norris.
Barbara loved playing the piano and studied music at Winthrop College for a time. She used her love of music to teach piano, lead choirs, and play for church congregations. A sports lover, Barbara played basketball in high school and enjoyed watching football and Nascar with her family. She enjoyed daily crossword puzzles, the beach, dining out or just sitting on the front porch. Barbara’s love of life and family ensured any event no matter how big or small was filled with laughter and memories.
More than anything, Barbara loved and served the Lord. She committed her life to sharing her faith with others. Barbara always had a special place in her heart for youth. In addition to teaching piano, she served as Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Organizer, and Youth Director. Children of all ages were easily drawn to her as her love and concern was genuine. Her interest in the lives of others and her commitment to make an impact was without bounds.
Barbara valued and promoted education. She served as the Financial Aid Director at Brunswick Community College. From there, as a Grandmother, she pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Christian Education at Heritage Bible College in Dunn, NC. She filled the role of “Dorm Mom” and was loved by all the students and staff. She later served as the Administrative Assistant as well as Financial Aid Director for the institution. She was responsible for the Accreditation of Heritage Bible College.
Barbara retired and spent the rest of her time enjoying her family. She will always hold a special place in your heart if she touched your life in any way. Our mother will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
