Obituary
Bernice Lewis, 68, of Shallotte passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016. She was born in Holden, MA on November 8, 1947, a daughter of the late George F. Brunelle and Janet Barnes Brunelle who survives.
She grew up in Petersham, MA and after high school joined the Army, where she met her late husband, Erie. She graduated nursing school at Sandhills Community College, and was employed as the Nursing Assistant Instructor at Brunswick Community College for eighteen years. She used her talents to support the Brunswick County Literacy Council Spelling Bee for many years, first representing Seaside United Methodist Church and later Brunswick Community College where in 2002, she and Karen Kirk took top spelling bee honors by correctly spelling "phalanx." She was proud of her grandchildren.
A strong supporter of her community and church, she participated in the Brunswick County Relay for Life, and was an active volunteer.
Surviving are her daughter, Georgia Bland (Chris); son, Sean Lewis; brother, Bernard Brunelle; sisters, Jeanine Pimental and Janet Bramlage; and grandchildren, Jennifer Lewis, Dylan Bland, Kody Bland, and Kayce Bland.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 23, at Seaside United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with interment in the church columbarium.
