Bert J Lamport Jr., at peace and with family by his side, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 24, 2022.  Bert was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana on November 26, 1930.  He was raised in Pittsburgh, PA and attended Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon) on an ROTC scholarship (first in his class), majoring in Mechanical Engineering.  He later also received an MS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Tech.  Bert was commissioned into the U.S. Army in 1953 as a 2nd LT and proudly served his country in Korea during the war.  He left the Army as a 1st LT paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and began his successful 50+ year career at the P.F. Sherman Co., which he later led as president, ultimately succeeded by Bert III.  During this time, he served as a Mt. Lebanon (PA) township commissioner from 1968 through 1976 and was an active Rotarian.  He was a long-time member of the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church (Pittsburgh, PA) and the Shallotte Presbyterian Church (North Carolina). Bert was a great storyteller and was the center of attention at any social gathering.  He loved traveling the U.S. and Europe with family and friends and spending time at his second home in Sunset Beach, NC.  Bert had a particular fondness for dogs and horses, and loved to reminisce of the days that he and Sheila spent riding. Bert was proudest of his grandchildren and loved sharing their many accomplishments with anyone who would listen. He also loved Patsy Cline and classic country music. Bert was predeceased by his wife of 50 years (Joan), infant son Daniel, and stepdaughter Deborah; Survivors include his wife Prudence Ann; sons Paul (Maverick) and Bert III (Janet); daughter Sheila (Kent); stepdaughter Brenda (Mike); stepson-in-law Art; grandchildren Sean, Brendan (Becky), Zachary, Caroline (David), and Erin (Daniel); and great-grandchildren Sophia, Brooks, and Noah.The family deeply appreciates the loving care of the caregivers from Home Instead, particularly Sherre and Vicky, and from the professionals of Lower Cape Fear Hospice, notably nurse Ashley. A small memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 2:00pm at Shallotte Presbyterian Church, 5070 M.H. Rourk Dr., Shallotte, NC. A celebration of Bert’s life will be held in his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA on Saturday, May 7, 2:30pm at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, 3319 West Liberty Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15216. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude’s hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
