Obituary
Betty Lou Bennett, 93 years young, of Calabash, N.C. left us on Friday, May 12 at McLeod Hospital in Loris, S.C. surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Columbus County, N.C. to the late Frazier and Alma Mercer. She was the youngest of seven children, graduated from high school in Columbus County and attended Kings College in Greensboro, N.C. where she received her Associate Degree in business. She worked for Central Piedmont Community College for many years in the Registrar’s office.
She loved puzzles and games, especially Bingo, which she played weekly; she loved loved to read, and had a great sense of humor. She always enjoyed spending time with her large family: children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Betty Lou was always up for an adventure, at 91, she went to Disney World for the first time with her grandchildren. Known for her pecan pies and baking, she was always making wonderful food for those she loved. She was well loved by all who knew her- a mother to many and a friend to all,
She was predeceased in 1998 by her husband of 48 years, Marvin B. Bennett. Betty Lou is survived by three children: Janice Yvonne Bennett Rendleman, David Michael Bennett, Donna Marie Bennett Touchberry (John), eight grandchildren: Krysta Marie Gannett (Keith), William Heath Bartley (Anne), Laura Ashley Rendleman Hales (Dallin) , Brikk Michael Bennett, Ethan Gage Bennett (Morgan), Stephen Pearce Touchberry, Jordyn Leigh Touchberry D’Andrea (Matt), Jarad Kyle Touchberry, and thirteen great grandchildren. She will be interred in Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, N.C. in a private family service.
