Betty Silvey Gagliano, 83, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the memories of a life beautifully lived.

Born on August 10, 1942, Betty lived with a deep appreciation for the beauty of the natural world. Whether she was listening to birdsong, watching sea turtles make their journey to the ocean, or enjoying the simple peace of the outdoors, nature was where she felt most at home.

Betty was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Joseph Paul Gagliano, who passed away in 2009. They met while working together at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, where they both enjoyed long and fulfilling careers. After retirement, they followed their dream of settling in Sunset Beach, where they embraced the coastal life they loved. Together they spent countless days camping, birdwatching, and volunteering with the Sunset Beach Turtle Watch, helping protect sea turtles and preserving the beauty of the place they called home.

Betty is lovingly survived by her children, Greg Hill; Kim Gagliano Lehnhoff and her husband, Tim; Nicole Gagliano Muenks and her husband, Mark. She was grandmother to Nicholas and his wife, Kait, Cole, Elli, Noele, Caden, Jacob, Jack, Josie, and Max. 

Known for her strength, independence, and quick wit. She was an avid baseball fan, cherished time spent with friends, and built a wonderful community in Sunset Beach. Among those friendships, her bond with her dear friend Ceil held a special place in her heart.

Betty also leaves behind her faithful dog, Opie, who was her constant companion and brought her comfort and happiness.

Like the sea turtles she worked so hard to protect, Betty’s life was one of quiet strength, perseverance, and grace. Her love for the outdoors reminds us to pause, listen to the birds, watch the waves, and find beauty in the simple moments. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in every sunrise over the ocean, every gentle breeze through the trees, and every act of kindness shared with others.

Your love, laughter, and adventurous spirit will remain in our hearts forever. Rest easy in Heaven, Betty.
