CSM, Billy Joe “Sonny” Simmons, 87 of Bolivia, NC formerly of Fayetteville, NC died January 27, 2021.

He was born October 20, 1933 in Etowah, AR a son of the late Billbo Simmons and Bertha Kinchen Simmons. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Bobby Simmons and a sister, Bertha Ruth Simmons.

He was retired from the U.S Army after twenty plus years of service in Korea and Vietnam. He was also a retired Personnel Specialist with the U.S. Civil Service.

While serving as president of Brunswick County Fishing Club (BCFC) in Sunset Harbor, NC, he was instrumental in BCFC partnering with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission to obtain public access to the inland waterway with an updated boat ramp, new fishing pier and parking lot for vehicles with boat trailers.

Surviving are his wife, Gwenneva “Gwen” Simmons; daughters, Alice J. Ratcliffe-Padgett (Dale) of Arlington, TX, E. Paulette Sheville (Dana) of West End, NC and Denise F. Macejko (Mark) of Pinehurst, NC; son, Charlie Huffman (Barbara), Charlotte, NC;  brother, Bonnie S. Simmons (Sandra) of Cordova, TN; grandson; C. Adam Ratcliffe (Stephanie) and great grandson, Kayden Evan Ratcliffe.

Service will be conducted at a later date in Sandhills VA Cemetery, Spring Lake, NC.
