Obituary
Carl “Mickey” Hoffer, 85, passed away peacefully on September 30th in Little River, SC after a brief illness. He is survived by the love of his life, Margaret “Peggy” Hoffer with whom he spent 63 wonderful years.
He is predeceased by his parents, Carl F. and Leona K. Hoffer, brother-in-law Richard Ellsworth, Martin and John (Jack) Skojec, sisters-in law Joyce, Linda, and Rita Skojec.
He is survived by children, Carol and Dave Porteous (CO), Christine and Ronald Barnes (NY), Michael and Maureen Hoffer (MA), and Patricia and Keith Mercer (MD). He is also survived by his sister, Judith Ellsworth, brothers-in-law Lou (Pam), Robert Skojec, sister-in-law Sue Skojec, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mickey was proud of his grandchildren, Matthew (Katherine) Hoffer, Christine (Dan) Pribulick, Erin Hoffer, Cory (Jacqueline) Hoffer, Colin (Amanda) Wong, Brandon Mercer, Sarah (Patrick) Connors, Bryan (Erika) Barnes, and Scott Mercer. He has 5 great grandchildren and two on the way.
Mickey grew up in Johnson City, NY and raised his family in Kirkwood. He later moved to Pittsburgh, PA where he was actively involved in youth hockey. He later spent his golden years in NC and SC. Mickey worked in banking as a mortgage officer and Vice President, real estate, and most recently at the PGA golf store where he retired from at 84 years old. He loved cruising, sailing, and spending time at the beach. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Steelers. Mickey was a proud Navy Reserve veteran.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donations to St. Jude Hospital or an animal shelter of your choice.
