Obituary
Charles “Charlie” Schorpp, 80 years old of Sunset Beach, NC passed away January 26th.
Charlie was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 7th, 1940 to parents Harry and Margaret Schorpp. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lillian (Lil). Charlie and Lil are survived by their children: son Chuck resides in Marietta, GA and daughter Dawn resides in Phoenixville, PA. Also surviving are daughter-in-law Kimberly Schorpp, son-in-law Jerry Geiger, brother Edward, sister-in-law Ruth (Scotty) and eight loving grandchildren (Tyler, Jillian, Jared, Justin, Jake, Brady, Lauren and Cole).
Upon his 1958 graduation from Philadelphia’s Frankford High School, Charlie went to work for Rohm and Hass Company’s Bridesburg Plant, and later transferred to Downtown Corporate Headquarters, Philadelphia. He obtained a bachelor degree in Business Management from Temple University’s evening division in 1969, and held various management positions during his 39 year career. Charlie retired in 1997 as Manager of Pensions and Benefits Operations, and he and Lil relocated to Sunset Beach the following year.
Charlie, an avid golfer, was a former member of Thunderbird GC, and longstanding member and former president of the Sea Trail Men’s Golf Association. He especially enjoyed his “Charlie’s Angels” golf gang. His many other interests included playing his piano, 50’s music (RIP Fats), karaoke, walking the beach, biking, fishing, boating, reading, tennis and traveling the world with his trusty diary. He was a member of the Calabash Elks and Freedom Boat Clubs. Quick witted, his keen sense of humor was contagious. He was a passionate sports fan, and loyal supporter of the Philly’s teams, most especially his beloved Eagles. Nothing, however, was more important to Charlie than time spent with his family.
A service to celebrate Charlie’s life will be held Monday, Feb, 1st at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church. 5101 Ocean Hwy W., Shallotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials be made to be in Charlie’s name to Duke’s Cancer Institute Fund Center.
