Obituary
Charles Joseph Hanlon, 97 of Sunset Beach, NC, passed away at home on Thursday, December 7, 2023. “Mr. Charlie” as he was affectionately known was born in Coatbridge, Scotland on March 19, 1926.
He was the son of the late Bernard Hanlon and Catherine McGhee Hanlon. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Maria Verga Hanlon, infant son, Robert Hanlon and grandson Craig Morris, Jr.
He served in the British Army during WWII as a signal corpsman and assisted in the repatriation of Italy. Shortly after his military discharge, he emigrated to the U.S. and proudly became a U.S. Citizen. His favorite pastimes included making new friends wherever he went, reading, traveling, singing and listening to opera and a genuine love for animals. “Dare to be honest and fear no labour”. Robert Burns 1759-1796.
Surviving is a daughter, Joan H. Morris (Craig), Sunset Beach, NC; a brother, Bernard Hanlon (Janet), Greensboro, NC; and sister Cathy Hanlon Burke, of Scotland.
A Memorial Service will be held on March 23, 2024 at 11:00AM in the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel Shallotte.
In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations be made in memory of “Mr. Charlie” to- Brunswick County Animal Services, P.O. Box 92 Supply, NC 28462
