Clinton Dale Felton

Clinton Dale Felton, born on April 22, 1931, died peacefully surrounded by family on October 15, 2021. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lillie Mae (nee Smith) and QJ (Quentin Jesse), and his siblings Ray, Gertrude, Nellie, and Arnold. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Felton, his children Susanne Felton, John Felton (Susan), Jane Minnocci (Michael), Samantha Farnham (Peter), Christine Petrusz (Robert) and Lauren Muth (Mark Humphreys) and his brother and sister, Bobby Felton and Frances Morris. Clint was a proud grandfather to Robert, Austin, Joshua, Rebecca, Carly, Gray, Alex, Elise, Caroline, Parker and Campbell and his great grandchildren Evelyn, Heath and Charlie.

Clint graduated from the University of Richmond in 1952, with BS in Physics and Mathematics. He had a long, productive career in advanced materials and was awarded several patents. He retired from Hoescht Celanese with the prestigious position of Research Fellow and was known to many as “Dr. Felton”. Also, Clint was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and a star baseball pitcher in his youth.

If you knew Clint well, you may have known him by his nickname of Rumple, which he earned decades ago from his habit of “rumpling” up his hair while he worked on his daily crossword puzzle. Rumple had a way about him that made everyone feel special and loved. He was an amazing listener, a teller of bad “dad jokes,” and a wonderful cook. He loved sitting at the table with family and just talking and listening. He was a simple man in the absolute best way possible—he knew what was important in life and lived his life accordingly.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and the angels on Earth that cared for Clint at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare. Also, a heartfelt thank you to two of our dear friends for their special bedside prayers for Clint and his family.

At Clint’s request, no service will be held at this time and no flowers or food should be sent to the house. He would rather you send food to someone in need and plant flowers for others to enjoy. To honor Clint, he would want you to take a walk on the beach, throw out a fishing line, watch a baseball game, enjoy a glass of red wine or give someone that you love a hug.
