Cynthia C. Fickes, 68, of Sunset Beach, North Carolina passed away on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017.

Cindy was born in Glenn Ridge NJ on August 4, 1948. She was one of three children born to Robert and Andree Burke. Cindy graduated from West Virginia University with a Degree in Education, and was an avid WVU sports fan. Her career was dedicated to elementary education, including 10 plus years with the Communities in Schools (CIS) program in Brunswick County. In addition, Cindy enjoyed a variety of fitness activities with both of her work-out groups in Sea Trail and Severna Park Racquet Ball Club in MD, and of course, her daily walks with Sadie and Abbey. In the past five years she had also become very committed to designing and printing holiday and special occasion greeting cards. She and Dick have been members of Seaside United Methodist Church for thirteen years and have been involved in a number of support and organizational activities.

She is survived by her husband Richard (Dick) and brother Geoff of Portsmouth, NH. Step-sons, Dicky of Birmingham AL, Andy (Nicole) of Lancaster, PA and Whit of Eugene, OR. Grandchildren, Quinn and Laurel of Lancaster, PA, Elle and Tyler of Eugene, OR. Brother-in-laws, Bob (OH), Jim (NC). Sister-in-laws, Sue (OH), Debra (NC), Mary (NH), and Barb (OH). Nieces, Jennifer (OH), Katie (NC), Maggie (NH), and Dara (VA). Nephews, Bobby (OH), Eric (NC), and Bret (NC).

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday March 11, 2017 at 4:00 PM at Seaside United Methodist Church in Sunset Beach. A reception will follow the service at Sunny Side Up Restaurant in Calabash, NC.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Brunswick County Sheriff's Animal Services Center or Seaside United Methodist Church.
