Daniel Robert Spearman, 1/22/48-4/13/24, 76, died peacefully in his home after a valiant battle with heart, lung, and kidney disease. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 32 years, Leslie Moore Spearman, his son Daniel Robert Spearman III and wife Julia, and grandchildren Maddie, 22, and Fisher, 18. He is also survived by his sisters Becky Gordon and Malia Spearman and in-laws, nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Mary Lou and his brother, Jimmy.

Rob was born in Gastonia, NC and went to Hunter Huss High School where he played football and baseball. After graduation he went to Gaston College on a baseball scholarship. After dropping a one-hour course to have more time for baseball, he was drafted into the Army. He went to boot camp at Fort Bragg and became the company clerk. He served stateside at Fort Dix, NJ until he was honorably discharged.  While on leave he met his first wife Margaret McHugh. They moved back to NC where he earned his degree and had a son, Daniel.  Rob worked in Charlotte as a food broker for Allegiance Brokerage and other firms while also raising his son.

After being introduced to Leslie by a mutual friend, they married in 1991 and built a happy life. Rob was always happiest at the beach, and after trips to Wrightsville Beach, Hilton Head, Key West, Bermuda, and the Bahamas, they bought a house at Oak Island where they retired in 2006.

Rob loved fishing, listening to beach music and Jimmy Buffet, and watching the Yankees, Panthers, and the Tarheels. But his favorite thing was being at home with his family and friends. He had a strong faith in God and worshipped at Oak Island Evangelical Presbyterian Church and online with Home Moravian Church when his health kept him home. 

A memorial service will be held at Oak Island Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1503 East Oak Island Drive, Oak Island, NC 28465 on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM.   In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church would be appreciated.
