Darry Gray Somersett
Obituary
It is with warm remembrance that we share the news of Mr. Darry Gray Somersett's peaceful passing on January 17, 2026, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. He was embraced in love by his cherished wife of 58 years, Jojuan Lee Somersett, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his devoted parents, Harry P. and Margaret H. Somersett, and his beloved sister, Patricia S. White and a special niece Felicia J. Stanley.
Darry leaves behind a loving family: his son, Darry Collin Somersett (Christy), and his daughter, Tara Somersett Frazier (Moses), along with his cherished grandchildren, Jeremiah Frazier (Mial), Abigail Frazier, and Elisha Somersett. He also delighted in the joy of his great-grandchildren, Ivy Hankins and Emmy Frazier. Darry is remembered fondly by his sister, Gayle Stanley (Donald), as well as two wonderful sisters-in-law, Sharon Watts and Anita Lowery. He was an adored uncle to his nephews and nieces: Greg White (Shirley), Brad Stanley (Leslie), Dean Lowery (Amy), and Sherry Ward (Brooke), along with many special cousins who held a special place in his heart.
Darry dedicated his career to serving as the Director of Operational Services for Brunswick County, retiring in 2008. He found immense joy in his work and cherished the relationships he built with his colleagues, often speaking fondly of them throughout his life.
A passionate farmer and avid hunter, Darry was a proud member of the Coastal Coon Hunters for over 50 years, as well as the Big Neck Hunting Club and the Brunswick County Sporting Dogs Association. Above all, he was a remarkable Christian man who consistently put the needs of others before his own, leaving a legacy of kindness and generosity that will be remembered by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 3:00pm in the Shallotte Chapel of Brunswick Funeral Service. Burial will follow in the Mintz Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times from the residence.
