David “Dave” McCoy Nelson, 78, Ash, NC died on May 5, 2021.
Born in Farmville, NC on February 7, 1943, he was a son of the late Raymond Lee Nelson and Maggie Mae Hobgood Nelson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Betty Smith Nelson.
He was a retired longshoreman, a U.S. Army veteran, owner and operator of Nelson’s Pine Straw Co. He was a member of Shallotte Masonic Lodge #727 AF&AM. Sudan Shrine Temple, S. Brunswick Islands Shrine Club and the Sudan Daredevils Motor Unit.
Surviving are daughters, Pat Nelson, Alpharetta, GA, Jennifer Sugg, Cumming, GA, Tanya Bellamy (Jason), Joy Blum (Jon), all of Calabash, NC; sisters, Lou Slaughter and Margaret May, both of Farmville, NC; grandchildren, Nathan, Noah, Jesse, Kylee, and Brayden.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Brunswick Funeral Service. Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery, Ash, NC with masonic rites.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Masks and social distancing will be observed.
