Obituary
Dean Franklin Chesser, age 89, died peacefully in his home on Saturday, March 4, 2023. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel in Shallotte, North Carolina.
Born April 6, 1933 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dean was the son of Walter Matthew Chesser and Emma Pollock Chesser. He grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and graduated from Charlotte Technical High School in 1951. After graduation he married his beloved high school sweetheart Patricia Elaine Southerland. Dean served 2 years in the U. S. Army stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma before returning to Charlotte. He attended Charlotte College several years while also beginning work for the U. S. Postal Service where he remained for 35 years. Dean and Pat raised 4 children together. After retiring they built a home in Sunset Beach, North Carolina where they enjoyed many happy years golfing, fishing, gardening, woodworking, traveling, and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife Pat who passed away on January 15, 2017. Also preceding Dean in death was his sister Janice Chesser Wiedeman. He is survived by his sister Donna Chesser Lewis (Kenneth).
Dean is survived by his daughter Cynthia Chesser Miller (Michael), and sons Michael Chesser (Nancy), Col. (USA, Ret.) David Chesser (Kim), Joel Chesser (Paige); grandchildren, Anna Miller Kang (Alfred Kang), Jessica Miller Tomlinson (Nathan), Megan Chesser Davis (Michael), Laura Chesser Abraham (Joshua), Miles Chesser (Lindsay), Grant Chesser, Cody Chesser (Rachel), Dillon Chesser, Allison Chesser; great grandchildren, Oliver Kang, Owen Kang, Quinn Chesser, and Beatrix Davis.
