Don Michael O'Neill
Obituary
Don Michael “Mike” O’Neill, 76, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC passed away suddenly on April 12, 2023. He was born in Bradley County, TN, on August 14, 1946, to the late Cosby Minor O’Neill and Annie Leona O’Neill. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Evelyn “Kay” O’Neill. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jake Alexander O’Neill.
Mike lived life to the fullest. He could often be found working on his boat, fishing, having fun with family and friends, going to local concerts, and listening to music at home. He had a heart of gold and always took care of everyone else first. He devoted the last 3 years of his life to taking care of his wife as she battled cancer. He never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. He had a great sense of humor and was notorious for his one liners. One of his favorites was “do your very best,” which is exactly what he always did.
Mike spent more than 30 years working as a Sales Representative and Sales Manager for Anderson Sanitary Maintenance out of Raleigh, NC. He was adored by his co-workers and business partners and was known for his loyalty and hard work.
He is survived by his daughter, Laura, and her husband, Erin Douna, of Ocean Isle Beach; his son, Ryan, and his wife, Megan O’Neill, of Hickory; his son, Don Michael, and his wife, Marie O’Neill, of Monroe; his sister, Pat, and her husband, Earl Watson of Shelby and his grandchildren, Abigail, Finley, Webb, Aubrey, Reagan, and Michael Wayne. He deeply loved all his family members, and his legacy will live on through them.
Services will be on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Camp United Methodist Church in Shallotte, NC. A celebration of life will be held afterwards at Amelia’s Restaurant in Ocean Isle Beach.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC, 28401, or online at lifecare.org.
