Obituary
Donald Lee Collier 87, Ocean Isle Beach, NC, passed away peacefully in Hospice Care at McLeod Health Seacoast Hospital on January 30, 2021.
Donald was born in the District of Columbia on March 7, 1933 to the late Lawrence and Ester (Beach) Collier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Janet Marie Haney.
He attended Western High School and graduated from South Eastern University in the District of Columbia. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War. After his military service, he then began his distinguished Civil Service in the District of Columbia and completed his 36 year career at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA.
Don and his wife Mary Ann, moved to Ocean Isle Beach, NC from Burke, VA after he retired in 1992. He enjoyed working with wood, working in the yard, visits to family and travel to the top vacation places in the United States, Canada and Europe.
Surviving are his wife Mary Ann, daughter Susan Athey, son Michael Collier, grandson Tyler Athey, brother-in-law Roger Haney, brother-in-law Jack Rop, sister-in-law Marjorie (Dalman) Kohlhaas, niece Jennifer (Leigh) Gilbert and husband Trey, step daughter Kathy (Peterson) Andersen, step daughter Debbie (Peterson) Garcia and husband Ciprian, step son James Peterson and wife Trudie, cousin Sandra Sullivan, seven step grandchildren, eleven step great grandchildren, and several cousins.
He was a member of Seaside United Methodist Church in Sunset Beach, NC. Given the current pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
