Donna Kilquist Woods
Obituary
Donna Kilquist Woods, 81, was called home by God on August 3, 2025, surrounded by family and love in Southport, North Carolina.
Born in 1943 to Freeman and Marguerite Kilquist in Kingston, New York, Donna was a shining light to all who knew her. She was a graduate of SUNY Cortland, where she majored in education, and she proceeded to have a fulfilling 30-year career teaching elementary school children in New York and New Jersey.
Donna’s journey was marked by unwavering faith. She followed her calling by serving as a Stephen Minister as well as singing in her church choir. For the past 20 years, Donna was a devoted member of the Saint Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southport, NC, where she cherished her church family.
The many people who loved Donna will remember her kindness, quick wit and appreciation for the occasional martini. She was an avid card player – and a force to be reckoned with when it came to canasta and bridge. She had a passion for reading, art, and traveling to explore the cultures and histories of countries throughout Europe. But above all else, her most treasured time was spent with family and friends.
Donna was predeceased by her beloved husband John. She is survived by her daughters, Melissa (Jim); Jen (Aaron); grandchildren, Anna, John and Ella; brother, Bill (Susie); nephews Paul, Jon, and Clay, and niece, Celci.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at Saint Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church on Sept. 20. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital; Saint Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southport, NC; or a meaningful charity of your choice.
