Doris E. Acree

Doris Ray Everette Acree of Oak Island, NC passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at New Hanover Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, NC.

Doris was born August 20, 1930 in Red Springs, NC, daughter of the late Ethel Ray Everette and William Benjamin Everette. She is predeceased by a brother, William James Everette and sister, Geneva Everette Parnell. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 71 years, Colonel Carl Ledbetter Acree, US Army Retired and sister, Betty Jean Betts of Franklin, KY. She is also survived by three children: Katherine Acree Tryon of Suffield, CT, Barbara Acree Inabinett (husband, Mike Inabinett) of Oak Island, NC and Carl F. Acree of Garner, NC (wife Karen); four grandchildren: Christian Tryon of Cambridge, MA, Heather Tryon-Winship of Suffield, CT, Carl J. Acree of Apex, NC and Taylor W. Acree of Cary, NC as well as seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her two beloved Shih Tzu pups – Sydney and Tu Wei.

Doris was affectionately known as Dot by friends and family members. She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing and decorating her home, cooking and cake decorating. Dot had a green thumb with all plants and would often be found taking care of them at her potting table. She was a golfer and bowler and an avid ballroom dancer. She and Carl won many competitions for their elegance on the dance floor. They had been active members of many ballroom dance clubs.

Dot had a flair for fashion and would light up every room she entered. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Island.

The family wishes to acknowledge with gratitude the services and loving care from staff at Coastal Companion Care as well as Liberty Home Health, and the countless phone calls, cards, visits, food, and especially prayers from friends and family.

A graveside service will take place at a later date in the Rolesville Baptist Church Cemetery in Rolesville, North Carolina.
