Dorothy Veronica McInerney (Urban), age 67 of Sunset Beach, NC passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022. Dorothy took great pride in her family and was surrounded with the support of her loving husband of 46 years, Edward and their three children, Christine McInerney (Leah), Katie Lay (Jacob) and Patrick McInerney (Melissa), and their five grandchildren, who were her the lights of her life, Kylie (19), Hannah (18), and Henry (4), Winston (~2), and Emerson McInerney (born while Dorothy was in the hospital).                                                                     

In addition to her immediate family she is also survived by her siblings Sr. Jane Urban, Charles Urban, Anne Flanley (Gene), Mark Urban (Kim), Marty Urban (Wendy) and Frank Urban (Madeline) as well as her sister-in law Cathleen Barnes (Ken), childhood best friend Debbie Gillard (James), as well as many nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors. 

Dorothy was well loved and admired by many. She was one of those people that left a lasting impact on everyone she met and was loved by all. She lived a life of unconditional and unselfish love and loved her husband, children, and grandchildren with everything she had and supported them all her life through both the highs and difficulties of their lives.

Dorothy was born in Philadelphia, PA, and then in 1985 moved to Knoxville, TN where she           and Ed spent 34 years raising their family. In 2019, Dorothy and Ed moved to Sunset Beach, NC. Dorothy grew up spending the summers at the beach in Wildwood Crest, NJ. It was here that she met Ed, the love of her life, at the mere age of 16. Dorothy always loved the water, especially the beach, and her dream was to someday live at the beach. In 2019, Dorothy and Ed, made this dream a reality when they moved to Sunset Beach, NC.   Over the past few years Dorothy and Ed worked hard to create not only a home for themselves, but also a permanent family beach vacation landing spot that could be enjoyed by all of their loved ones.

In Dorothy’s professional life she worked at various positions and lastly retired from the Y12 Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN. However her greatest joys were her kids and grandkids, cooking, entertaining, traveling, and her new home at the beach.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 am on March 31, 2022 at Saint Brendan’s Catholic Church in Shallotte, NC.
