Edison Irlean Tripp, Jr.
Obituary
Edison Irlean Tripp, Jr., 81, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
Born on August 16, 1945, in Columbus County, NC he was the son of the late Edison Irlean Tripp, Sr., and Margaret Holden Tripp.
Edison grew up at Shallotte Point running along the banks of the Shallotte River. He was a 1963 graduate of Shallotte High School and after graduating he went to Nashville, TN to learn the trade of diesel mechanics. In 1966, he joined the United States Army Battalion Company B, where he served a tour in Munich Germany and finished his tour out at Fort Collins in Colorado. Edison served his country with pride and respect. After leaving the Army, he went to work for the North Carolina Department of Transportation and retired 28 years later.
Throughout Edison’s life, he was involved in helping and serving in the Shallotte Point Community. In 1979, Edison and other citizens of the Shallotte Point area founded and built the Shallotte Point Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Masonic and Shriner Lodge since May of 1991 and a member of Village Point Methodist Church.
Other than serving in the community, he enjoyed camping, riding his 4-wheeler and side by side. Edison was talented at playing the guitar; therefore you could find him gathered with friends and enjoying playing his guitar and sometimes listening to Johnny Cash. If he was not serving in the community or playing the guitar, he was building cars and boat motors, especially in his younger years. Edison had a caring heart, which allowed everyone that knew him to grow to love him.
Surviving are his daughters, Tammy Tripp (Vern) and Crystal Tripp Sheppard (Jeff); the mother of his children Lois Howard. Lois lovingly and patiently took care of Edison until he got his wings. He is also remembered by his loving dogs Lea and Ruby.
