Obituary
Edward Joseph Kerr, Jr., age 84, of Carolina Shores passed away on Wednesday March 27, 2019 at his residence.
He was born in Newark, N.J., on April 25, 1934, the son of the late Edward Joseph Kerr, Sr. and Susan McElwaine Kerr and was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Gillen as well as the beloved family dog “Smokey.”
Mr. Kerr formerly lived in North Arlington, N.J., with his family. He was a veteran of the United States Army and worked as a Program Analyst Manager with Prudential Life Insurance Company for 34 years until his retirement. He served in the community as a high school baseball umpire. He was a founding member of the Duffer’s Golf Association (DGA) in N.J. After retirement, he worked part time with the United States Golf Association (USGA) in N.J.
In 1995, he and his wife, Mae Kerr, retired to Carolina Shores and continued his love of golfing. He began working as a Ranger at the Pearl Golf course in Sunset Beach, NC. In 1998, he was a club champion at Carolina Shores Golf and Country Club. He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and was a member of the Calabash Elks Club #2679 and a member of the VFW Calabash Post #7288. His love, besides his wife and family, was his friends and he will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his wife, Mae Helen Kerr of 46 years; three sons, Bobby Crudele and wife, Kara of North Arlington, N.J., E.J. Kerr and wife, Jenny of Nolensville, TN and Brian Kerr and wife, Angie of Springfield, VA; a sister, Peggy Sheprow and husband, Harold of Port Jefferson, Long Island, N.Y.; a brother, Jim Kerr and wife, Pat of Concord, N.C.; six grandchildren, Ian, Skyler, Shane, Lily, Luke, and Chiara; many nieces and nephews.
There will be a time of visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday March 31, 2019 at Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel, 5229 Ocean Highway West Shallotte.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, April 1, 2019 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1100 8th Avenue North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
