Edward Ossian Redman

Edward Ossian Redman

Edward Ossian Redman (known as Eddie) was born on October 19,1938 to Elwood and Mary Margaret Yonker Redman and was raised in Washington DC. After marrying his first wife in 1959 they lived in the DC and surrounding areas before settling down in Waldorf MD. They raised a family and were together for 26 years. His combined career was in the DC and Southern MD areas consisting of Western Electric, The Evening Star, The Washington Post, and various other local newspapers. Lastly, he started up his own courier service, in which he enjoyed running his own business -mostly because he could make his own hours to allow time for his hobbies.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. He enjoyed golfing so much that in 2005 he retired and moved to Calabash to pursue more of it. Eddie's real passion was socializing and no matter where he was you could find him laughing with friends and most likely making new ones. He loved to shoot pool, throw darts and an occasional gamble -especially on his beloved Redskins! He was a season ticket holder for 30 years. In 2006 he married the love of his life, Wanda. The two enjoyed many of the same activities and had a very active lifestyle as they traveled together to many places. Out of all the places he traveled around the world he loved New Orleans the most. He enjoyed the music, food and its Cajun/creole culture. Perhaps a friendship with the late musician/singer Fats Domino had some influence on that.

He died at the age of 86 on January 3, 2025, at the Lower Life Care Hospice in Wilmington with his wife by his side. He enjoyed having his family gathered together before entering hospice. He battled pancreatic cancer for 6 years which was baffling his doctors. Most don’t get that amount of time. He truly was a determined man, bravely fought cancer and continued to make memories with his family and friends til he could no more. Eddie was a fun-loving guy and always brought out the best in others!  He lived his best life, and he gave his best to us! He surely will be missed.

He is survived by his wife; Wanda Horton Redman, Biological children; Cynthia Marie Webber (Donnie) of Calabash NC, Michelle Lynn Hancock (Brent) of Mechanicsville MD and Edward Owen Redman (Kay) of LaPlata MD and sister Patricia Brown (Buddy) of Akron OH, Step children Robert Underwood of Frederick MD, Michelle Jennings (Greg) of Glen Burnie MD Samantha Webb (Ian) of Newburg MD and a total of 8 grandchildren and 1 predeceased grandchild.

A celebration of his life will be planned at a later date.
