Elizabeth Carlisle Naughton, 77, died peacefully on December 29, 2017 in Wilmington, NC surrounded by her loving family. Elizabeth was born in Tarboro, NC on May 6, 1940. Elizabeth and her three brothers were raised in Chapel Hill, NC by their parents, Frank M. Carlisle and Theo Fields Carlisle. She was an enthusiastic dancer and an avid swimmer. She made many lifelong friendships while living in Chapel Hill. She graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1957 and attended the University of North Carolina where she met her future husband, James Michael Naughton.

After college, the happy couple married and later moved their growing family to Coram, NY. They eventually settled in Buckingham, PA where Elizabeth was a dedicated mother and actively involved in her children’s schools and extracurricular activities. The doors of her home were always open to all family and friends. Elizabeth served on the vestries of St. Cuthbert’s Episcopal Church in Seldon, NY and Trinity Episcopal Church in Buckingham, PA doing God’s work. She worked in the cardiac services unit at Doylestown Hospital in Doylestown, PA. She was an active member the BuxMont Doll Club. In 2007, Elizabeth and Jim retired to the warmer climate of Sunset Beach, NC.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 55 years, James Michael Naughton; her sons James Michael Naughton, Jr. (Janet) of Alexandria, VA; John Patrick Naughton (Natalie) of Green Sea, SC; Christopher Carlisle Naughton (Amy) of LaGrange, GA; and daughters Elizabeth Naughton McIlwain (Robert) of Wake Forest, NC; and Jennifer Naughton McCreary (Terence) of Furlong, PA; and grandchildren: Anna Naughton, Michelle McIlwain, Meredith Naughton, Olivia Naughton, John McCreary, Emily McCreary and Claire Naughton. She is also survived by her brother Jack Jenkins Carlisle (Jeanette) of Wilmington, NC, nieces Lisa Carlisle Beaman (Paul) and Michelle Elaine Carlisle of Wilmington, NC, and nephew Craig Carlisle of Garner, NC. She was predeceased in death by her parents, two brothers: Walter Geddie Carlisle and Frank M. Carlisle, Jr., niece, Kathy Carlisle Smith, and nephew, Gregory Fields Carlisle.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Brunswick Funeral Service located at 5229 Ocean Highway West, Shallotte, NC 28459, (910) 754-6363. The funeral service and graveside interment will follow immediately. After the service, a celebration of her life will be held at Jerome’s Steak and Seafood Restaurant, 4909 Main Street, Shallotte, NC 28470, (910) 754-8680.
