Obituary
Elizabeth Osborne Hughes, 87, of Sunset Beach passed away unexpectedly on May 22, 2026. She was a retired insurance agent, a beloved mother, grandmother and a great grandmother. Lib enjoyed fishing, working in her garden, and cooking. Her biscuits were renown, followed only by her talent for cooking rice.
Lib was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gennings Carlton Hughes; and her daughter-in-law, Cynthia Hughes.
Surviving are her son, Kenneth Hughes; her daughter, Genise Hughes (Jackie White); her grandsons, Jonathan Neal Hughes and Jared Chad Hughes (Annalore); great grandsons, Alexander Seth Hughes and Ronan Stonewall Hughes; and Special Friends, Jonathan Long Family.
Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte Chapel, by The Reverend William Chappell.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Coleman Cemetery, Ash.
