Elwood Smith, 71, of Calabash, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
Elwood was born on October 27, 1954, and was the son of the late Luther Smith and Mary Edwards Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Sheila Gail Smith.
He started logging at the age of 15 years old and became the owner of Elwood Smith Logging Company in 1993 and retired in 2009.
Elwood was survived by her son Jimmy Smith and wife Jodie; a daughter Crystal Gail Smith both of Calabash, NC; two sisters Bobbie Hewett and Ruby Jean Hewett; grandchildren, Bella Lossen, Emma Lossen, Aubree Huff and Charlotte Huff.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 26, 2026, in the Brunswick Funeral Service Shallotte Chapel by Pastor John Chase officiating. Burial will follow in the Mintz Cemetery.
The family will receive family and friends from 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at the funeral home.
Pallbearer will be Jimmy Smith, Marcus Anthony Moore, Ricky Simmons, Larry Smith, James Roger and Bobby Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be Joey Milligan and Johnnie Smith.
