Obituary
Elwood Smith, 71, of Calabash, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
Elwood was born on October 27, 1954, a son of the late Luther Smith and Mary Edwards Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Gail Smith.
He started logging at the age of 15 years old and became the owner of Elwood Smith Logging Company in 1993. He retired in 2009.
Elwood is survived by his son, Jimmy Smith and wife Jodie of Calabash, NC; daughter, Crystal Gail Smith of Calabash, NC; two sisters, Bobbie Hewett and Ruby Jean Hewett; and grandchildren, Bella Lossen, Emma Lossen, Aubree Huff and Charlotte Huff.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 26, 2026, in the Brunswick Funeral Service Shallotte Chapel by Pastor John Chase. Burial will follow in the Mintz Cemetery.
The family will receive family and friends from 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at the funeral home.
Pallbearer will be Jimmy Smith, Marcus Anthony Moore, Ricky Simmons, Larry Smith, James Roger and Bobby Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be Joey Milligan and Johnnie Smith.
