Ernest Vernon Pate, Jr. (Bucky),
A resident of Bolivia, NC, died on November 5, 2017. Bucky was born in Winston-Salem, NC, on June 30, 1939, to the late Ernest V. Pate, Sr. and Ellen Wells Pate. He was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, VA., and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Bucky founded Typography Studio, Inc., and raised his family in Winston-Salem, NC. Bucky retired in Holden Beach, NC where his focus became civic interests including the Holden Beach Merchant’s Association, Shallotte River Sail and Power Squadron, Holden Beach Chapel and supporting the Brunswick Community College Foundation.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Pate, his children Lorrie Pate of Morrisville, NC, Greg Pate of Raleigh, NC, and his sister, Linda Rowe and her husband Roy of Lexington, NC. Also surviving are stepsons Sam Catlett and wife Christine of Wilmington, NC, grandchildren Dylan and Marley Catlett; Steve Catlett and wife Melissa of Southport, NC, grandchildren Emma Catlett and Camden Jones.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11 am at the Holden Beach Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Hargrave Military Academy, 200 Military Dr., Chatham, VA 24531.
