Obituary
Eugene “Gene” Joseph Williams, 95, of Sunset Beach, NC passed away on January 23, 2019.
He was born in Washington, D.C., and lived most of his life in the D.C./Maryland areas. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy in 2003, a daughter, Linda, a grandson, Jeffrey Ryan, four brothers and his only sister.
Gene attended local schools in D.C. and began working for the Department of the Navy after graduation. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served on LSTS and shore duty in North Africa during WWII. While serving in the Mediterranean, he earned a Purple Heart. After returning from his service overseas, Gene was on shore patrol in Washington D.C. for the remainder of his service commitment.
Gene married Nancy, his “Sweetie”, and the love of his life, in 1945. Together, they enjoyed 58 years of marriage. After retiring from the printing business in the mid 90’s, Gene and Nancy moved to Sunset Beach, where they continued pursuing their love for golf, travel, and the many amenities at Sea Trail Resort.
Surviving are his son, Gene “Jody” Williams, Jr and his wife Penni; grandchildren, Nancy Linn and Jason and his wife, Theresa; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel, Shallotte. Funeral and Interment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA., at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Brunswick County Meals on Wheels, or a charity of choice.
