Obituary
Eva Margaret Townsend Herring of Dunn, NC, formerly of Whiteville passed away January 11, 2026. She was born in October 5, 1933, to the late Clarence Gordon and Eva Gray Williamson Townsend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilton Howard Herring and brother, Dr. Gordon Lee Townsend, Sr.
Eva was an active member at First Baptist Church of Dunn. She volunteered for many years with Columbus and Brunswick County Literacy Councils, as well as Hospice of Brunswick and Harnett Counties. She was a lifelong advocate for animal welfare. Eva, a real estate developer owned and operated her family business, Marlee Acres Inc. until her death.
A funeral service will be held, 11 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2026, at Skinner and Smith Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Henry Osborne Dunbar, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Ann Herring of Raleigh; son, Howard Lee Herring and wife Jeanette of Dunn; two grandchildren, Andrew Duncan Herring and wife Maggie of Manteo and Margaret Herring Gurkin and husband Cuyler of Dunn; two great grandchildren, Robert Townsend Gurkin and Worth Archibald Gurkin; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends following the service.
