Everett Bernard Garlem

Everett Bernard Garlem (Age 100) of Annandale, VA and native Washingtonian, passed away on October 14, 2021. Everett was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, and brother. Everett Garlem was born and raised in Washington, D.C. and lived his adult life in the suburbs of Hyattsville, MD and Annandale, VA. The Garlem’s owned the last working vegetable farm in Washington, D.C. and made a living selling vegetables at the local farmer’s markets. Everett served in the Army Air Corp in WWII supporting communications. His final rank achieved was Staff Sergeant. After the war, Everett returned to his job at Western Electric where he retired in 1975. Everett enjoyed his retirement by playing golf, gardening, and enjoying his blended family. Everett is survived by his wife of 46 years, Shirley Garlem, his two daughters, Peggy Lilly (Robert) and Susan Meyers (David), Stepchildren Vivian Kersey (Roger), Ivan Fisher (Cynthia), and Sue Fisher, Brother-in-law, Warren Burton, Grandchildren, Brian Ude, Amy Mistretta (Louis), Michael Misleh (Jessica), Christopher Misleh (Gina), and Julie Meyers; Step-grandchildren Michael Lilly, John Engle and Kelli Fisher, and Great-Grandchildren, Dylan Ude and Natalie Mistretta. Preceding Everett in death was his wife, Linda Garlem, his parents, Theodore and Mabel Garlem, his brother Ernest Garlem, his sister, Elinor Burton, and step-son Kenny Fisher.

Services will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suitland, MD 20746, at 11:00am at the grave site. The family has requested that memorial donations be made to a charitable organization supporting veterans.
