Obituary
Fred Baker, 82, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2023, surrounded by family after a long hard fought battle with cancer.
Fred, youngest son of Harry and Anna Baker, was originally from Boston, MA and is survived by his wife of sixty years, Dorothy Baker, youngest son, Jeffrey Baker, grandson, Maxwell Baker, older brother Louis Baker and many nieces and nephews.
After receiving a masters degree in engineering from Northeastern University,
he and Dottie left Boston for the west coast, making stops in Seattle, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Washington DC. along the way as an engineer for Mobil Oil before finally calling Southport, NC home for the last 26 years.
Fred was an avid athlete who was known to bait the younger members of his family and their young friends into foot races by letting them know just how fast he was, but also enjoyed tennis, golf, fishing and remained a faithful fan of the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots.
While in Southport, he and Dottie enjoyed local attractions, extensive travel and time with friends. Fred was the president of the Kiwanis Club, Chairman of the Architectural Control Committee, a volunteer at the Food Pantry and one of the founders of Teen Court for at risk teens in the Brunswick County High Schools. Fred was pre-deceased by his beloved oldest son, Craig M. Baker.
A memorial service will be held at a time and place to be decided. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Lower Cape Fear Life Care of Brunswick County.
