Gary Michael O'Hare
Obituary
Gary Michael O’Hare, 64, of Sunset Beach, NC, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
Born in South Plainfield, NJ, on October 5, 1960, he was the son of the late James O’Hare and Janet Jagodzinski O’Hare. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother James O’Hare.
Gary was a man who found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved the beach and the salt air, which brought him peace and happiness. His true passion, however, was walking. He could often be seen strolling through the neighborhood, covering an impressive 10 miles a day. For Gary, walking was more than a physical activity—it was a way to build his intestinal fortitude, pushing his limits and strengthening his resilience.
Above all, Gary loved his family deeply and cherished every moment with them. He had a profound appreciation for music, which filled his life with joy. Known for his empathetic nature, kindness, and generosity, he touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving a legacy of compassion and warmth.
Prior to retirement, he owned and operated a trailer park facility and was a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion Organization.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Cahnovsky O’Hare; his son, Ryan O’Hare; his daughters, Marie O’Hare and Amy O’Hare; and his brother, Jefferey O’Hare.
A mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church (5101 Ocean Hwy West, Shallotte, NC 28470).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brunswick Family Assistance Agency, honoring Gary’s generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
