George Louis Purvis, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, age 64, passed away on Thursday, March 14th, 2024, following an unexpected illness.  He is survived by his wife Karen, sons: Lane (Magen) of Grasonville, MD, Brandon Preznuk of Fayetteville, NC, daughter: Christina Lovasz (James) of Leesburg, VA, brother: Daniel Purvis of Indianapolis, IN and sister: Mary Anne Sullivan (Todd Ames) of Evans, GA.

George was born on May 29th, 1959, to Christine and Cecil Purvis in Taipei, Taiwan.  As the son of diplomats, he spent his childhood years in Taiwan, Vietnam, and Arizona, before finally settling down in Alexandria, VA.

George Purvis, a retired Senior CIA Officer and renowned paramilitary operations instructor, concentrated his efforts in Latin America, Europe, Asia and across the U.S. His love of country, commitment to his faith, and dedication to duty sustained him to accomplish his vital work throughout his 34-year career in countries and continents around the world.

In his free time, he enjoyed golfing with the Winding River Men’s Golf Association (MGA) and the Christian Men’s Golf Group, fishing at local ponds, spending time with family on North Carolina and U.S. Virgin Island beaches and providing laughter to those around him. George is best known for his “quick wit”, faith in God, selflessness, compassionate nature, love of baseball, and genuine interest in the lives of those around him, which allowed him to live an incredible life, bestowing his loved ones with endless memories.

A memorial service will be held on March 18th, 2024, at Brunswick Funeral Service, 3479 Southport-Supply Rd., Bolivia, NC.  His family will receive friends beginning at 10am, followed by a funeral service at 11am.
