Grace "Granny" Barnes Sledge, 84, of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, entered her eternal rest on October 29, 2025.
Born and raised in North Carolina, Grace was a true Tar Heel through and through — her love for UNC basketball was matched only by her deep devotion to her family and her steadfast faith.
She was the beloved wife of the late William “Pappa” Sledge, who passed away in 2004. Together they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and strong family ties. Grace is survived by her children, David Caffee and Alta Baxley (husband Eddie Baxley); grandchildren Kameen Spence, Joshua Spence (wife Katee Spence), Connor Caffee, Landon Caffee and Ayden Hughes; and great-grandchildren Elizabeth Spence and Averie Spence.
Grace, affectionately known as “Granny,” was known for her warmth, wit, and unwavering love for those she held dear. Her home was always open, her table always full, and her heart always generous.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Brunswick Funeral Home in Shallotte, North Carolina. The visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. The family invites friends and loved ones to a luncheon following the service at her residence.
Grace’s life was a reflection of her name — full of kindness, love, and God’s grace. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
