Obituary
Harold John Pirie Nugent passed away on October 25th at the age of 69. John was born in Boston on November 29, 1953, and grew up in Needham, MA. He was a passionate skier and tennis player who also passed on his love of soccer to his two children. John possessed a curious mind and delighted in any type of social occasion where he entertained people with stories, experiences, and his humorous poetry.
John graduated from Bates College and earned his MBA from Fox School of Business, Temple University. He was invited to the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society for academic excellence. Much of his career was spent as Vice-President of Steiner Electric, where he worked until his retirement. He was a long-time board member of the Association for High Technology Distribution.
Much loved by colleagues, friends and family, John was the consummate people person who connected with everyone he met. His was a face people remembered even when they had never previously met him. John volunteered his time and talent to Habitat for Humanity and The Society of St Vincent de Paul, where he had the pleasure of working directly with the people he served. He was at his best in the company of others with his easy laugh, quick wit, and charm that put people at ease.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne (nee, Nofsinger) son Zach (Helen Bogda), daughter Victoria, and grandsons Logan and Peter John Sames. Additionally, John is survived by siblings Michael Nugent (Jan), Jan Freitag (Scott), Tim Nugent (Betsy) and FW (Allis), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. F. Warren Nugent and Joan (Pirie) Nugent.
Family and friends will gather for a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport, NC.
