Harriett "Tweet" Ivey Thompson
Obituary
Harriett “Tweet” Ivey Thompson, of Sunset Beach died January 14, 2020. She was born in Guilford County, NC on November 11, 1951, a daughter of the late Harris V. Thompson and Myra Cornwell Thompson.
Surviving are Larry Wayne Cox of Sunset Beach; sister, Frances Williams, of Ocean Isle Beach; and several nieces and nephews.
Tweet sold real estate through her family owned business at Causeway Realty in Ocean Isle for over 35 years. She loved meeting people and showing them property in Brunswick County. But in her later years, her love for the Yucatan Peninsula intensified so much that she purchased a home directly on the Gulf of Mexico. She loved the people, the food, the culture and in turn the people loved her. She constantly encouraged friends and family to come down for a visit. She and Larry took clothes and other personal items to the children in Mexico so often that they could have started their own “Rent a Kid” program both here and abroad. The last thing she would always say to a kid was don’t forget to “Be Bad”. That was Tweet’s way of saying you better be good. Her legacy of her happy place in the sun and her love for the Yucatan people will now live on through Larry as he promised.
Memorials may be made to Brunswick House, Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 Physician’s Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401 or the Epilepsy Alliance NC, 1920 West First St, Suite 5541-A, Winston Salem, NC 27104.
