Hazel Hester Forlidas, 89, of Sunset Beach, NC died peacefully on November 23, 2023. She was born in Bladenboro, NC on January 2, 1934, the daughter of Roy Hester and Lila King Hester. For 53 years, she was the loving and devoted wife to the late Nick John Forlidas. Hazel was a graduate of Kings Business College, worked in banking operations in Charlotte and was the consummate homemaker. While living in Charlotte, she was an active member of First Baptist Church Charlotte and a gifted servant volunteering her time with various ministries of the church. After retiring to Sunset Beach, she became a member of Seaside United Methodist Church, the Sea Trail Ladies Golf Association and the Sea Trail Garden Club. Blessed with the gift of hospitality, she enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Her faith, her family and her friends were the focus of her 89 years. Hazel is survived by her son, John R Forlidas and his wife, Cindy; daughter, Karen F Gaskins and her husband, Stephen. Her surviving grandchildren, who always called her “ZZ” are Brittany Forlidas (Kevin Tighe), Cassidy Miller (Philip), Nick Forlidas, and Chase Gaskins (Sullivan). She was blessed in her last year with 2 great grandchildren: Liza Jane Gaskins and Philip Craig Miller III. She is also survived by her younger sister, Nancy Lee Hester. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Brunswick Funeral Services in Shallotte, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
