Henry Jerome “Hank” DeMattia, Jr., 90, of Sunset Beach, NC, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Hank was born in Passaic, NJ on September 4, 1932, to Henry Jerome Sr. and Catherine (Francioso) DeMattia.
He served in the US Army from 1953-1954 and later worked as a program manager for the Department of the US Navy.
He earned a B.S. degree in mathematics and physics from West Virginia Wesleyan College where he met his wife of 67 years, Patricia. Together they had 3 children.
Hank and Pat retired to Sunset Beach, NC in 2001 and were members of Saint Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church.
Hank enjoyed golf, reading, puzzles and especially spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his sharp wit and sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Pat (Wilt) and faithful companion, Philly; children, Philip (Donna) DeMattia of Ijamsville, MD. Tony (Debbie) DeMattia of Herndon, VA and Beth (Troy) Taylor of Walkersville, MD; grandchildren, Kyle DeMattia, Kevin DeMattia, Lauren (Tyler) Martin, Abbie (Walt) Missimo, Allie Taylor and Jack DeMattia; two great grandchildren; sister, Doris (Irv) Nelson of Toms River, NJ and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Christian Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Saint Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church.
Family will receive friends at the Pink Palace in Sea Trail following the service.
