James Edwin Layton, 85, Ash, NC died September 28, 2019.
Born in Boomer, WV on June 2, 1934, he was a son of the late Michael Layton and Flossie Angel Layton.
He was a retired printer for the State of West Virginia and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He held membership in Nitro Masonic Lodge #170, the Scottish Rite, Valley of Charleston Consistory and the Shrine.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Clendenin Layton; sons, James L. Layton (Lisa), Pittsburgh, PA, Jeff Layton, Parkersville, WV, Rev. Raymond E. Jordan (Vanessa), Charleston, WV, Carl Jordan, (Donna), Seneca, SC, and David L. Underwood (Sheila), Sissonville, WV; daughter, Molly Clendenin (Tim “Bird”), Ash, NC; sister, Mosscino Noel, CA; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted in Nitro, WV under the direction of Cooke Funeral Home, 2002 20th St., Nitro, WV 25134.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607
