Obituary
Chief James Frederick Hendricks, a proud retired Navy veteran, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
James was born in Chicago, IL on July 11, 1954, to James Alfred Hendricks and Helen Amanda Karger Hendricks.
James served his country in the United States Navy from 1972-1992, where he was recruited by his father, and retired as Chief. After retiring from the Navy, James began working for Bed Land in Shallotte and continued there for 32 years. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV and Moose Lodge. James was an active member of Camp United Methodist Church where he enjoyed worshipping with his wife and friends.
He was a man of many talents and loved his family, travelling, basset hounds, planting and harvesting his garden, fishing, and his cats LeRoy and Lucy. If you knew James, you knew he never met a stranger and was always willing to help and generous to a fault.
James is survived by his wife Thommi Hendricks; mother Helen Hendricks; children, Jennifer Ambers (Alan), David Hendricks, Ryan Hendricks, Stephen Stanely (Amanda), Kristina Savage (Chris), Angela Rogers (Shay); siblings, Karin Folding, Kathi Stanley (Alan), Kevin Hendricks (Karen); grandchildren, Shyna Statdfield (Trevor), Xander Ambers (Nadia), Sivryn Ambers, Amber Stanley (Evan), Hannah Phillips (Lane), Reed Savage, Lacey Savage; mother-in-law, Judy Arnold and sister-in-law, Karen Lenton (Robert), along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition, he was preceded in death by his father James Alfred Hendricks, son, Michael Stanley, his paternal and maternal grandparents, and Wilson T. Arnold, father-in-law.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 11:00 am in the Camp United Methodist Church (4807 Main Street, Shallotte, NC 28470) officiated by the Reverend Clay Parker. Following the service, inurnment will be held at the church columbarium with Navy Military Funeral Honors, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in honor of James either to Camp United Methodist Church General Fund (PO Box 776, Shallotte, NC 28459) or to a charitable organization of your choice.
