James "Jim" Shaughnessy

James (Jim) W. Shaughnessy, 79, Calabash, NC died at home Saturday, December 5, 2020.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 2, 1941, he was a son of the late James Francis Shaughnessy and Mary Boyle Shaughnessy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Shaughnessy.

At the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Military Police Officer in Fort Gordon, Georgia. He later became a New York City Police Officer and retired after 20 years. In 1999, he and his wife retired to Brunswick Plantation Community where they resided for 21 years. He did volunteer work for The Warrior Ride, Meals on Wheels and Therapeutic Horse Back Riding for handicapped children. He enjoyed golfing, bike riding and gardening. His interesting stories and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannette, son James, daughter Renee, daughter-in-law Bronwyn, son-in-law Greg, brother Gerard Kiernan and wife Mary Ann, granddaughter, Samantha, grandson, Jameson and many loving cousins.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to one of Jim’s favorite charities: NPCF (National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation), St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or Tunnels to Towers Foundation.

A Mass will be held in St. Brendan, The Navigator Catholic Church in Shallotte, NC on Monday, December 21, 2020 at 10:00 am.
