James "Jim" Walter Comer, III

James (Jim) Walter Comer, III, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC died peacefully at home on September 30, 2024.

Jim was born on August 8, 1937, in Huntington, NY, to James W. Comer, Jr. and Kathleen Lavelle Comer.

Jim spent most of his life in Huntington graduating from Huntington High School and Oswego State Teachers College. He taught Industrial Arts for 38 years at Locust Valley Jr./Sr. High School.

Jim’s hobby was carving, mostly shore birds, waterfowl and songbirds. Many friends have one of his birds displayed in their homes. Jim’s main recreation was working, whether it was putting on a new roof, remodeling a kitchen, or helping Marge in the garden. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, and time at Lake of the Woods in Northern New York.

Upon retirement to North Carolina, Jim was involved in the Brick Landing Community and was a member of Seaside United Methodist Church.

Jim is survived by his wife, Margaret (Marge) Dickerson Comer, son, Keith (Julie) Comer of Naperville, Ill, three grandchildren, Robert, Allison, and Christopher Comer; and sisters-in law Lucinda Comer, Linda Sinclair, Nancy Dickerson and Carol Dickerson. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his son, Douglas Comer and brother Ronald Comer.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Watertown, NY.
