James Richard Stevens
Obituary
James Richard Stevens, age 71, passed away on December 29th after a valiant fight with Covid 19. He is survived by his wife Rebecca Lynne Stevens (together 46 years), mother Geraldine Stevens (age 99) of Hartville, OH, son Joshua Stevens (Carol Donnelly) of Charleston, SC, son Jeremy Stevens (Karlien) and his cherished granddaughter Charlotte Rose all of Wilmington, NC, sister Jean Luckmeier (Louis-deceased) of Copley, OH, brother Carl Stevens (Peggy) of Hartville, OH, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends. Jim was a retired Sergeant of the Akron (OH) Police Department since 1999 after 27.5 years of distinguished service. His career included many years as a detective and part of the Street Narcotics Undercover Detail. Jim was a proud Vietnam Veteran, life member of the VFW, VVA, NFOP and pro-active force of reuniting his fellow 577 Engineer Battalion buddies for annual reunions since 2011, having found over 500 members. Jim was an avid Harley rider and a member of the Beach House Harley group (Shallotte, NC), member of Beach Customs group (Little River, SC) and a member of the International Blue Knights group (Wilmington, NC). After Jim’s retirement, he & Becky relocated to Charlotte, NC to further their love of boating on Lake Norman, then relocated to the beach where they now live in the wonderful community of Ocean Ridge Plantation in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. They bowled on the community bowling league for many years and enjoy many special friendships with their neighbors. Becky & Jim were lucky to have many wonderful vacations with family & friends and the past few years traveling in their RV. Jim was extremely passionate about his politics! Jim is described by his 577 buddies as “one of life’s most memorable characters with an incredibly high level of energy, enthusiasm, intelligence, activity and ability to get things done. He far surpassed the average person in all those categories.” He will be greatly missed by those that had the privilege to know him. May he rest eternally in peace.
