Obituary
Jan David Heiser, 82, of Sunset Beach, NC passed away on August 20, 2023 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick in Bolivia, NC.
Jan was born April 5, 1941, in Wisconsin Rapids, WI to the late Leon John Heiser and Viola Ristow Heiser. The Heiser family moved to Frankfort, KY when Jan was 3 years old where he grew up on the Kentucky Game and Fish Farm where his father was the Superintendent of that state agency. Jan’s love of nature and of animals began there.
He was a member of Saint Luke Lutheran Church in Ocean Isle Beach, NC where he and his wife Juanita worshipped after moving to Sunset Beach in 2015 from Advance, NC.
Jan retired from IBM Corp. in 1996 in Raleigh after 31 years of service. In his retirement he enjoyed playing golf, working his lawn and garden, and traveling (visited 14 countries and Hawaii.) He continued his love of horse racing and returned to Kentucky as often as possible.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his only brother Thomas Heiser. Those left to cherish his memory are wife of 46 years, Juanita Turner Heiser of the home; sons Jan David Heiser, Jr. of Texas, Jeffrey Wayne Heiser of Kentucky, and step-daughter Anita Webb Higgs of NC; grandchildren Alex Heiser of NC, Damien Heiser of California, Fawn Spacke of Colorado, step-grandchildren Jeffrey Higgs and Kevin Higgs of NC. Great-grandchildren Adagon Spacke, Trinity Spacke, Colt Spacke, Phalan Spacke all of Colorado.
Sisters-in-law Gladys Heiser of Kentucky, Jenny Campbell of NC, Peggy Hall of NC, Dorothy Deloatch of Ohio, and Elizabeth Craven of NC. Brothers-in-law Clyde Turner and Jerry Turner, both of NC; two nephews, John and Mark Heiser of Kentucky and niece Debbie Hembree of Kentucky.
A service to celebrate Jan’s life will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Saint Luke Lutheran Church in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Visitation will be at Brunswick Funeral Home in Shallotte on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 from 6-8 PM. Interment will be at Raleigh Memorial Park in Raleigh, NC.
In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 955 Mercy Lane SE, Bolivia, NC 28422.
