Janet Yale Twomey
Obituary
Janet Yale Twomey, 81, Shallotte, NC died October 19, 2023, at the SECU Hospice House of
Brunswick. Born in Phoenix, NY on December 8, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Adelbert
Yale and Viola Page Yale.
Janet was predeceased by the love of her life, and husband of 61-years, John Joseph Twomey.
Janet’s love story with her husband, John, began in Worcester, NY. After only a few months of
dating, on October 19, 1960, John told Janet that there was one thing he didn’t like about her –
her last name. They were married in Cherry Valley, NY on July 1, 1961. Janet told John that she
would follow him anywhere – and he was continuously testing her on that – together they
moved 18 times, finally retiring in Shallotte where they lived for over 30 years.
Janet was a dedicated wife and mother. Together Janet and John raised four children; son, John
Andrew Twomey (Susan), West Winfield, NY; daughters, Linda Cunningham (Jeff), North Myrtle
Beach, SC, Laurie Eddy (Jonathan), Burlington, VT, and Jill Fallone, Shallotte, NC.
Janet is survived by five grandchildren Wesley Howell (Danielle), Lindsey Glass (Zach), Maureen
Eddy, Kelly Eddy, and Anthony Fallone, and two great-grandchildren; Emmaline Howell and
Baby-to-be Glass.
In addition to her children, Janet is survived by her brother Wayne Yale (Peggy), Seymour TN,
Linda Czerkies (Doug), East Springfield, NY, and Doris Thompson, Cherry Valley, NY.
Janet was known for her smile, infectious laugh, and can-do attitude. She loved bluebirds,
classic country music, holiday traditions, and playing competitive tennis. She will be greatly
missed.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of Janet’s
