Obituary
On September 29, 2022 Jeanetta “Jan” Anne Hodge Hartlaub, loving Mother, Mother-in-law, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother and Great Grandmother was called home by her Lord at the age of 86. Jan was born on January 3, 1936 in St. Petersburg, FL to Winnifred and Oscar Hodge. She served in the Air Force where she met her husband Ray and they were married for 66 years. They lived in many places while in the Air Force and eventually landed in High Point, NC where they raised their 3 children. She obtained a 4-year Bachelors of Science from Guilford College at the age of 61. She loved to write articles and when she retired to the Southport area, she used her time to write many articles for the newspaper and volunteered for many organizations. She was a breast cancer survivor and an advocate for the American Breast Cancer Society. She helped many women with information in the navigation of treatments and options for breast cancer.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her sisters Loretta Mae Jones and Lillian Parkinson. Jan is survived by her loving husband Ray Sr. of the home, her son Ray Hartlaub, Jr. and (Carla) of Angier, Carla’s children Michael Guy of Angier, April Dorman and (Sean) of Garner, April’s daughter Emmalynn Dorman of Garner, Jan’s daughter Karen “Cissy” Rieger and (Rob) of Southport, grandchildren Daniel Rieger and (Harper) of Knoxville, TN, Jennifer Rieger Warwick and (Matt) of Suffok, VA, Mitchell Rieger and (Natalie) of Charleston, SC, Jan’s son Mitchell Hartlaub and (Donna) of Wilmington, NC, grandchildren Lauren Brothers and (Nick) of Leland, NC, great grandchildren Lillian “Lilly” Brothers and Benjamin “Ben” Brothers of Leland, NC and granddaughter Casey Hartlaub of Wilmington, NC.
At a later time, there will be a Celebration of Life in Southport at Saint Peter Lutheran Church.
